Why should you give jobs, or university admissions, or in fact any consideration at all, to foreigners?
As I learn from Abi here, Joseph Nye of Harvard's Kennedy School of Government has the simple answer. "It’s one of the best investments [a country] can make", he says.
I hope the sons-of-the-soil theorists (if such a thing can be called a theory, that is), the men who beat up Bihari job applicants at Bombay's railway stations and destroy malls because they think "locals" are being denied jobs, are listening.
But I don't think they are.
