Lines #1

(The first in an occasional series).

Give your heart and see, give your heart and see,
Give your heart and see, sir!
Those who take hearts, learn to give hearts sir!
Those who take hearts, learn to give hearts sir!

Dil Dekhe Dekho - movie and song. Do I get extra credit if I say it was Mohd. Rafi and Shammi Kapoor?

I remember someone doing a hindi version of "I wanna be your underwear" in a HPC issue during my time at BITS ;)

On the same lines:

Alone! Alone!! Where are you going?
Take me along wherever you are going.
Alone! Alone!! Where are you going?

and

Having draped the stars on your body
O desire of my life, where are you going?
Just come near me
So that I attain peace

and, in a different mood,...

In the folds of my eyelids I'll seat your image
Your memories I will make my bride
And keep them close to my heart
Don't be sad my love!

Hats off to the teams which created works that have stood the test(s) of time

Kraktik, you got it! All right, all right, stop grovelling, you get extra credit too.

Goyal, always a pleasure to hear from another BITSian, especially one who remembers things about underwear...

Pankaj, nice ones! That first one, it might be nice to translate as "A banana, a banana" ... but as you know that's not quite the translation. Another song can be translated as "My name is Anthony Gonsalves/In this world, I am a banana".

But I can't get the last one -- do tell me. I know I'll be kicking myself as soon as you do, but I just haven't been able to crack it.

Will have more, soon.

Dilip,

"Palkon ke jhokon me tujhko bitha ke
Yaadon ko teri main dulhan bana ke!
Rakhoonga main dil ke paas
Mat ho meri jaan udaas!!"

Brahmachari.

And if we are going to transliterate , shouldn't it be Banane and not Banana?

And, with due apologies to all the "bhaiyas" in Mumbai,

Why did you hit my buffalo with a stick?
The poor thing was just grazing in the field
What harm did she cause your father?
Why did you hit my buffalo with a stick??

Looking forward to more from you.

That should read :

Dil ke jharokon mein tujhko bithakar etc.

which translates as :

In the folds of my heart ...

Sorry for the slip. You are right of course. Thanks for the correction.

Dilip, here's another version of Lines #1.

Try losin' your heart, try losin' your heart, try losin' your heart to someone,

You've bin stealin' hearts so long, try losin' your heart for once,

Try losin' your heart, try losin' your heart, try losin' your heart to someone.

You can almost hum it to the tune of the original Rafi song.

Pankaj, I like that! Are you responsible for that? Not only can you almost sing along to the original tune, you can almost imagine a blues or country singer singing those words. Joe Ely, where are you?

Dilip,

Glad you liked it. I'm kinda pleased about it myself.

Came to me in the shower this morning ;). Honest!
