Form of birth right

But, India, the nation it is, its very hard to compare with countries like Pak, SriLanka, Nepal, Burma etc. and even for that matter China. We are different. Moral Values, Patriotism, Democracy, are the things that we get as a form of birth right. So, Its hard to imagine the same thing happening here in India.

A reader who styles himself "aflatoons", commenting on this page (eighth from the bottom). This is a reaction to news about NZ players expressing concerns about playing in the IPL in India.

What do you think? Do you agree with aflatoons?

Terrorists can strike anywhere at will in South Asia may not in Chiina due to their hardline no nonsense approach to national and internal matters.

However India can't be clubbed with Pak on other matters. International standing, democracy etc. May not be perfect at least the intention is there unlike in Pakistan.

I think the Mumbai attacks have proved we are as susceptible as Pak.

Think about the number of bomb blasts in India last year.

I think the comparison with Pak or any of our neighbors is meaningless.

It is not like we had a clean 2008 that we can base an argument for ourselves.

Dilip, I disagree with this statement of his: Moral Values, Patriotism, Democracy, are the things that we get as a form of birth right.
Our moral values, patriotism and (blind) faith in Democracy or the lack thereof of either, is part of our upbringing. Not a right - imposed Culture cant be a right.

Of course Aflatoons is 1000% right...we're best nation, we have more morality then sheep in NZ. We are nation of Gandhi, Nehru and Barjatyas. NZ player should just see Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi, and they will fall down on the ground after that...and want to move to Bareilly to start wind farms and rugby team called Bareilly Ki Bhasas!

I think in 2008 I may have empathized with the NZ players but post 26/11 india is very conscious of both how negligent it has been in security issues as well as how much it affects how others see us. Nothing galvanizes us into action more than how we're viewed abroad.

So if IPL and the govt. say they will have the best security, then they will. The critical difference with Pakistan is that we know we can trust the security and the establishment. There's no complicity within the establishment that arranges the security; the same guarantees do not exist in Pakistan.

Really Sudha? I am not so sanguine at all.

we can accuse our security apparatus of being inefficient and inadequate but surely not complicit.

Yeah...you're right Dilip...we are better off to lay our trust at the doors of the Taliban.
