Conversations, #6

The sixth installment of the ongoing conversation Beena Sarwar and I are having by email, here: Push for peace parks.

As always, comments welcome. May I take a moment to say thank you to all of you who have commented on previous installments; I hope they have given each of you things to think about. (I know your comments have given me things to think about).

Speaking of previous installments, here they are: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5.

This is a great idea. At first I thought 'oh another lame memorial, who cares about those..' but I see how it would mean so much to the soldiers on the line and to those who contemplate it. It would signify a commemoration of sacrifice that is detached from the hostility and chauvinism that such memorials normally provoke.

O thou great people dreaming of building memorials and parks, first ensure that existing memorials e.g. Taj Hotel, Jewish place, are not destroyed.
