Behind their backs

In the middle of yet one more temporary blogging slowdown, here's a puzzle: what's the picture above about? Where's it taken? What's going on? What's the significance of 767 in the top right corner?

***

Someone got this right! It's the daily "Teer" in Shillong, where archers gather and shoot arrows for a fixed time at a target. The number of arrows that hit the target are then counted -- 767 in this case. The last two digits of that number, 67, become the winning number for the day, and people go off and collect their winnings.

A definite Shillong delight. Check it out when you're next there.

is it some bow arrow competition with 767 being the arrows on target?

K: very close. But where? What do they do with the 767?

767 is a typo, it is supposed to be a 676 :) The concentric circles on the bullseye (not in the picture) have numbers on them, with higher points for the inner circle etc.

Guess 2: That is Alec Baldwin with his back to the camera. He gave a pep talk to the archers (using David Mamet's script), the one who hits bullseye gets a ride on his Boeing 767, others pick up straw arrows. Baldwin is still waiting for a person who can ride with him.

767 is number of arrows and they are looking for the missing arrows in the bushes. As more arrows are found they will update the total arrows to 768 769 etc. Ofcourse after you get full 1000 arrows USA consumer will buy the whole lot for 10 cents. Then you chop down the next banyan tree of shillong and make 1000 new arrows and play archery with them until next customer comes along.
