Doppler (and a Renault Logan)

I've really fallen so behind on the attention this blog needs. The other day I ran across a pledge someone made: one post a day on their blog. Maybe it's something I can start (or re-start) with.

In the meantime, please do take a look at my latest "A Matter of Numbers" column in Mint, which was published last Friday June 24: Of Galaxies' Doppler shift.

Comments welcome.

"Its Doppler shift marks its age as 13 billion years. Out at the edge of the universe, here’s something nearly as old as the universe itself."

The light left from there 13 billion years ago. I mean it is OLD! Did they even HAVE ipods in those days? It must have been boring back then.

Your continued neglect saddens your faithful supporters as well as the faithful attackers. We need you to be an elitist, minority-loving, matrabhumi-criticising, thought-animus-provoking, math-loving, whirling-dervish-like ornery wise guy.

Anon above: I take that and savour it as a compliment. I promise to make amends very soon.

"One wishes you could amend your brain."

As one Anonymous to another - thank you for making my point about how well-loved Dilip is. You have attempted a lobotomy from afar with your "cutting" remark. A lobotomy of love shall we say?

Thank you for again for your well-taken point, your valuable time and your high praise and compliments for Dilip.

Dilip I have no idea why my name has been dragged in here. I had nothing to do with it.

Hahaha!! Good one! Coming from the guy who has impersonated Sabnis, some Purvi Khera, one Sudarshan Nair, Oldtimer/RR, & many more, this is a *really* good one!!

I'm completely baffled by where these last few comments sprang from. What do they have to do with the doppler shift?

Then again, what am I asking! This is the web, the free-ranging domain of nuts.

Any further comment that has nothing to do with the subject will not appear.
