One day while Sachin Tendulkar was building his new home opposite where I live, there was an effort to move many tons of marble.
I know you want to know about that.
Check my essay in the November issue of Caravan: Mr Tendulkar's Neighbourhood: Living next door to Sachin.

Wow Dillip, the neighborhood will be famous now, what with God himself choosing it the place in Mumbai. Just kidding. But I would guess that other than the irritating fans, the man himself would largely remain hidden. You should learn to enjoy the unwelcome attention to the surroundings - i guess.
So does he wear a zippered sweater - no - cardigan - and take off his shoes before he sits down to talk to his fans? I 401 must visit Mr. Tendulkar's ..err.. your house next time. Amore important goal I cannot imagine!
"How will a god—this god—live any kind of normal life?" - you ask.
You are right. He can't live a "normal life" - at least not as yet.
Greg Chappell is reported to have written in his recent book "Fierce Focus" about Sachin's lack of friends:
"He just couldn't get any rest. Once we were talking ... and I said, 'You must have so many friends, it must be hard finding time to keep in touch with all of them'. He looked me in the eye and said, 'Greg, you would have more friends in India than I've got'," Chappell writes.

Yes D'Souza lives in a cool neighbourhood. What's up your alley, do tell what's up yours? Who are your neighbours? I bet his neighbours are more famous than your neighbours. You must compete more effectively.
I liked the article. It's evocative, never boring for a moment even. Thanks.
