Lines #14

Hop on as the wagon train slows down...

***

I'm afraid of my eyes meeting some other's
Friends, I'm roaming through a street full of lovelies
Just saluting them from afar

This love with Jo, it's for those
who just take the name of love
They die, they are forgotten, they are maligned.
So let it go, leave it, friend!
We won't fall in love with each other.

***

Right Dilip - stay away from Jo. If you fall in love with her you'll get a bloody nose. Why? Read on:

This thing that the world calls love
its only for those,

who, chanting their sweetheart's name
whether it shines or it pours,

lose themselves
forget themselves
earn themselves...a bloody nose (HAH!).

Let it go,
leave it,
talk of somethin' else.
Try not to fall in love.

All about making it rhyme nicely.

"The drifting kite". One of those musical classics each song of which was a gem.

What do I say, Pankaj: I bow and scrape as always...

One of those musical classics each song of which was a gem.

Truly! Every song. Any others in which each song is a gem?

The other Shakti Samanta - RD Burman - Rajesh Khanna movies that followed the superhit Drifting Kite are also musical classics where each song is a gem.
Here they are:
Memorable Love
Stranger
Lover
If you cannot decipher it, please mention it and I will give you the titles.
Decipher the titles and get the music. Trust me - it is money well spent. Even today the songs sound fresh. Kishore Kumar singing for Rajesh Khanna is simply awesome.

The other stanza goes:

If the sea breaks, the new sea replaces
My God let anybody not play with anyones heart
If the heart breaks then what would be the result

This thing they call love.....

Speaking of "this thing called love", as you probably know, Queen had a song called "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". (This thing/Called Love/I just/Can't Handle It...).

Any connection to this Drifting Kite stuff?

Some more musical classics of the top of the head:

Teesri Manzil
Junglee
Professor
Tumsa Nahin Dekha
Brahmachari
China Town
An Evening in Paris
Bandini
Guide
Hum Dono
Jewel Thief
Teesri Kasam
Sangam
Aarzoo

Many more additions to this list are there I am sure. From the 50s and 60s most Shammi Kapoor movies, Raj Kapoor movies and Dev Anand movies would qualify, and quite a few of the Dilip Kumar and Raj Kumar starrers.

Great idea, must follow up the other posts. Nikhil, perhaps "Undying Love" rather than "Memorable Love"; "People will talk" has my vote for best number from the '70s even though I much prefer Gulzar to Anand Bakshi.

Dilip, I go away for a while and find THIRTY-SIX posts when I check again? There goes my evening!

"Drifting Kite", "People Will Talk"...such wonderful arthouse movie titles!

Though "Undying Love" could easily be mistaken for zombie-porn (tagline: "He Rises Again - And Again!")

-I dont think there is any connection. But Queen became famous in the late 70's and Kati Patang was made in 1971. Do not thonk there was any connection.

Pankaj - I will even add the Rajesh Khanna starrers of the early 70's to the list - particularly when Kishore Kumar was doing the vocals. These titles are easily available - I already own these combos:
Kati PAtang/Amar Prem
Mehbooba/Kudrat
Ajnabi is relatively rare. But let me know if you can find it.

Some more titles of the early Rajesh Khanna age where all songs are gems

Safar
Mere Jeevan Saathi
Anand
Daag
Others:
Yaadon Ki Baaraat
Caravan
Johhny Mera Naam
Anand
Aandhi
Parichay
Kinara

The Rajsh Khanna, R.D.Burman, Kishore Kumar, Shakti Samanta era was the GOLDEN ERA of the Indian Film World.
