Paul Samuelson died. His economics text taught plenty of people the basics of economics (guns and butter, to start with). I count myself among them, though "taught" might be stretching things a bit far in my case.
True story: A friend and I once made our way through the corridors of MIT in search of Samuelson's office, to try to pay our respects. We found it, but he wasn't in. We stood in front with our heads bowed anyway.
Go well, Mr Samuelson. There are many who remember you.

Roadrunner: Delhi December 15
The Roadrunner roadshow, such as it is, makes a stop in Delhi before taking a break for a while:
December 15 (today), 6pm. Crossword bookstore in Select City Mall, Saket. I'll be in conversation about my book with Nilanjana Roy (Akhond of Swat), Shormishtha Panja (Professor of English, Delhi University) and Mani Shankar Aiyar.
If you're in Delhi, be there or be elsewhere.
If you're not in Delhi, you're elsewhere. Never mind. Or please come anyway.

Bhopal
This is a year for quarter-centuries. Indira Gandhi's death, and the murder of some 3000 Indians in the days immediately after, happened in 1984. 25 years ago.
And just over a month later in 1984, a gas killed thousands in Bhopal.
There are some commentaries I've seen that say we must "move on" from those calamities, those deaths by the thousand. What does "moving on" mean when there are so many who have seen no justice? It's a question that I have no answer for.
Meantime, I tried to remember Bhopal here.
Your comments welcome. And do also read the other articles on that site.
