Is all

So you think we should not refer to the late KR Narayanan as India's first Dalit President?

Fine. Therefore the same logic would have us:

1) Stop referring to the fast bowler Sreesanth as the only the second Kerala cricketer to play for India; he's a cricketer, is all.

2) Stop calling the late Phoolan Devi the "Bandit Queen"; she was a MP, is all.

3) Stop referring to Sonia Gandhi's Italian birth; she's Indian, is all.

4) Stop calling it "Islamic terrorism"; it is terrorism, is all.

5) Stop calling people "Hindus" or "Muslims" or "Christians"; they are people, is all.

6) Stop finding pride (or anything else) in how India has a Muslim President, a Sikh Prime Minister and a Christian heading its ruling political party; they are Indians, is all.

7) Write your own in this space.

Well the pride is that we have a nation where any minority, Muslim, Sikh, Christian could reach the highest office in the land; or for that matter be the richest person in the nation.

Cracks me up when people like J B D'Souza start pushing Indian minority cases to UN - the very UN led by nations which have yet to put a single minority in their community to the highest office of their 200+ years of country's history.

That's right, good suggestion. Let's stop calling it a Hindu fundamentalists party, it's just a fundamentalists party, nothing else.

Vajpei and party has nothing to do with Hinduism anyway.

Good, then they'll be all "secular" Indians like our Ulta-Pulta Alliance.

Indian bishops mourn ex president Narayanan

The Indian Bishops’ Conference (CBCI) has joined in nationwide mourning for the death last night of the former president, Kocheril Raman Narayanan. Naranayan, 85 years, was the first Dalit to reach the Indian presidency. He fell into a coma last week after an acute arterial blockage and was kept alive by a ventilator.

The CBCI spokesman, Fr Joseph Babu, expressed the bishops’ sentiments of mourning, joining with the rest of the nation in grieving Naranayan’s death. He said Naranayan “symbolized the resurgent India in so many different ways. We have known him as a person who contributed to the nation in different areas of service and rose to the highest office of the country and gave a sterling leadership during his tenure”.
